Shakti - Ayurveda centre
Ayurveda is an ancient Hindi method of medical treatment, which is widely spread in India and it is becoming well known in the Western world as well. It blossomed again in the middle of the previous century and it soon received official recognition. Ayurveda is today a composite part of Indian national medical network. It is a subject of scientific researches and a field of study at many higher education institutions and universities.
Ayurveda is in the oldest writings defined as ''knowledge of life'', which approaches life as a harmonic combination of body, senses, spirit and intellect. Ayurveda presents the collection of principles for maintaining health of healthy people, and at the same time it offers many therapeutic methods of medical treatment. It gives special significance to prevention, and it has gradually developed a total analytical system, which enables perceptions in the changes of health much sooner before the symptoms are visible. Thus, it enables the selection of the most suitable prevention therapeutic procedures.
Ayurveda principles divide people according to their personal characteristics and physical built into three basic types or doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. In a healthy person all three doshas are in balance. To maintain and to re-establish the balance is of main importance for individual types adjusted diet, life style and suitable treatments (cleansing of the body, massages, body wraps and others).
In 2006 we enriched our wellness programmes in the Spa & Wellness Lifeclass complex by opening the Shakti - Ayurveda centre. Since its inception, we have been offering various Ayurvedic treatments, based on traditional knowledge. They are performed by professional Ayurvedic therapists, who acquired their knowledge from Indian Ayurvedic experts having years of experience. Also eight certified Ayurvedic therapists from India joined us since July this year. Eight highly qualified therapists chosen by the Kerala Government has started professional and qualitative implementation of the Ayurveda treatments in the Shakti - Ayurveda centre in Portorož. The State of Kerala is today one of the Indian states which is most systematically developing the Ayurveda medical treatment system. The Ayurveda medical treatment with unique characteristics was developed in the State of Kerala in the past. Beside well developed medical infrastructure of the modern Western medicine, several hundred Ayurveda hospitals and clinics operate under the government patronage. Several thousand Ayurveda institutions operate in the private sector as well.
