Local, Natural, Medicinal Factors
Salt pan mud (fango) – black gold for your health
is Istrian clay enriched with brine, pasty, naturally soft, homogeneous and blackish in colour. In the salt pans the clay absorbs minerals from the brine in extremely high concentrations. Therapeutic procedures take full advantage of the thermal and chemical effects of the mud. Fango (mud)
fomentation is applied to sore parts of the body or is used for fango baths, when mixed with brine and sea water. In both cases the fango is used only once, that is for one patient at a time.
Mud packs are highly recommended in cases of degenerate locomotor system (back ache, pain in loins, worn out joints), for muscle pains and chronic rheumatism. Recently, fango has become popular and is widely used also for cosmetic purposes. It is very beneficial to the skin as it has softening and tightening effect and it also possesses anti-inflammatory and cleansing properties (works against acne).
Fango has excellent peeling properties (it effectively removes old cells). Due to its thermal properties, fango activates and helps metabolism work better, stimulates perspiration and removal of body wastes, stimulates detoxification of the body and melting of the cellulite.
Brine (Acqua Madre) – natural sea treasures from the salt pans
is high concentrated sulphuric water that contains other minerals as well, namely bromine, iodine and magnesium. It is obtained from the natural production of salt in the Sečovlje salt pans
. When salt crystals are removed, on the bottom of the salt pan there remains a highly concentrated fluid – the brine containing clay from the salt pan’s bed. From a medical point of view it is very important that the brine is still obtained in such a natural way, because it remains free from any irritating substances (allergens). Therefore, the brine is not necessarily cleaned or filtered prior to its being used and its chemical effectiveness is thus preserved entirely.
The brine is used in the form of bubbling baths in which most of its thermal, chemical and mechanical properties are exploited to the full. Bathing in brine has a calming effect, transforms and refreshes the exhausted body through stimulation and strengthening of its defences. What is more, blood flow is increased throughout the body by the intensive and deep warming effect, especially beneath the skin, thus producing an increased supply of oxygen so as to make the skin become more elastic, stretched, fresh, beautiful, healthy and youthful in appearance. It is also beneficial to scars and adhesions which become more elastic and soft allowing increased mobility in individual joints.
Brine is recommended for joint and muscle pains, pains of degenerative and rheumatic origin, tingling, cramps, dizziness, in cases of reduced joint mobility as well as for post fracture and post operative mobility conditions. Brine inhalations are used for treating chronic inflammation of the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system (sinusitis, bronchitis and asthma). It also shortens the period of convalescence in a number of viral illnesses as it relieves and mitigates chronic coughing. It is extremely beneficial to smokers as well as to people who want to give up smoking.
Mediterranean climate that brings optimism
Portorož is located in a peaceful corner of the bay of Piran
. To its north lies a garland of small hills, all scattered with olive groves, hidden Istrian villages and vineyards. Its position is mostly sunny and there is no real winter, as autumn almost imperceptibly changes into spring. There are mild differences in temperature between one season and other.
Mild seaside climate
effectively influences on the improvement of people’s psycho-physical condition
and state of mind. Clean air, rich in sea minerals, mildly circulates through the atmosphere. On the seashore alone, especially when sauntering through the salt pans, we partake of a natural aerosol made up of sodium, chlorine, iodine, bromine, magnesium, silicon and ozone which is brought to us by the south winds.
The natural aerosol of the seashore is mixed by the north wind (burja) with the essential oils of the coniferous trees thus combining the medicinal effects of both. According to the International Association for Balneology the air in Portorož is pure and healthy. The climate in this region is suitable for soothing and healing chronic respiratory diseases as well as relaxation all the year round. Just take a deep breath.
Sea water – the sea, the source of life, equilibrium and vitality
On the northern part of the Adriatic, where the sea is most deeply indented to the mainland, the sea water is most pure, warm and of a sky blue colour. The sea together with its beneficial by-products offers unlimited possibilities of recreation and well-being. Natural sea baths have beneficial effects on the body; improve the circulation of the blood and metabolism. Swimming stimulates breathing and the functioning of the heart. The thorax is strongly expanded and contracted and the respiratory muscles are strengthened, thus improving the health condition of people with chronic lung diseases.
Bathing in the sea water is recommended to people with back trouble as exercises in water are much easier to perform. Greater mobility means more exercise and stronger muscles.
Thermomineral water – harmony from the earth’s depths
Thermomineral water is supplied from a well 705 m deep. Its source temperature is 23 degrees Celsius.
The water contains sulphur as well as sodium chloride and other important substances and minerals of sea origin, thus combining the healing properties of mineral and sea water.
Bathing in the swimming pools with thermomineral water produces beneficial effects on the skin, respiratory organs, locomotor system and leaves you with a general feeling of wellness.
Thanks to the highly developed and ecologically safe cleaning technology, we maintain the water clean and hygienically irreproachable. The water cleaned in such a way is clear and odourless retaining, however, all its healing properties.
