Mediterranean Diet

Healthy Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet has a remarkable effect on the physical and mental well-being of every individual. It is rich in olive oil, nuts, fish, Mediterranean herbs, fruits and vegetables. This means that monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids are a predominant feature of this diet.  As reported by The New York Times (Kolata, 2013) and TIME Magazine (Sifferlin, 2013), research by several scientists and researchers have revealed that Mediterranean food improves general well-being and digestion, lowers  blood cholesterol and at the same time improves the functioning of mental abilities and the brain, especially during ageing. Furthermore, it has been proven that Mediterranean food is better than a low calorie diet. Over 30 % of heart attacks, strokes and also deaths due to heart disease can be prevented with the Mediterranean diet.  There is also proof that the Mediterranean nutrition is helpful in lowering the possibility of a stroke, as well as in treating children’s asthma and cancer.
